Last Thursday June 29, 2017 the U.S. House passed two deeply troublesome anti-immigrant bills.
No Sanctuary for Criminals Act (H.R. 3003) would punitively withhold federal funding for cities with community trust policies (such as non-detainment or sanctuary policies) in place.
Kate’s Law (HR 3004) would expand the federal government’s ability to prosecute individuals for “illegal reentry” and impose even more severe penalties in these cases.
Such proposals would target more than 600+ cities, counties, and states and reverse years of intentional, community-based policing efforts that are vital to public safety in neighborhoods across the country.
