Karen Handel has won the seat for Georgia’s 6th Congressional District. Her track record for support of refugees, refugee resettlement, and immigrant rights is troubling and during her campaign made a point of demonizing Syrian refugees.

Nevertheless we need to work with her to ensure she has the correct information regarding resettlement and knows there is a large outspoken portion of the community in support of refugees.

Take a moment to call her at 470-255-2112 (campaign office) AND 770 998-0049 (district office) (likely will get voicemail on both) and leave the following message…..This message is for Congressperson Handel. Congratulations on your win yesterday. I am calling in support of refugees and ask you to make refugee resettlement a priority in your new administration. Thank you.

After calling please send her the following message (or a version of it) to with the subject line “Congratulations”.

Congressperson Handel,

Congratulations on your election to Georgia’s 6th Congressional district.

Soon, President Trump will have the opportunity to decide how many refugees can enter the United States in 2018. Early indications are that this could be as low as 50,000 people – less than half the number that was previously approved. A reduction of this scale would have devastating consequences for tens of thousands of families who have fled war and merciless persecution.

The refugee resettlement program has historically received broad bipartisan support and is a shining example of American values of generosity and welcome. Communities around the country continue to stand up for this proud tradition. Like many of our ancestors, refugees come to the United States with nothing but their dignity, hope and determination.

In light of today’s unfortunate and unwelcoming rhetoric targeting refugees and immigrants, the need for leaders like yourself supporting our work is more important than ever.

Please continue to support refugees and refugee resettlement into the U.S. and Georgia.

Thank You,
