In addition to the three calls we are asking you make today and every day this week we also have an urgent ask before tomorrow morning. The House Judiciary Committee will be voting in committee tomorrow morning at 10:00 a.m. on the misnamed H.R.495, the “Protection of Children Act” and H.R.2826, the “Refugee Program Integrity Restoration Act”.

H.R.495, the “Protection of Children Act” would eliminate basic child welfare protections for unaccompanied children escaping gang and sexual violence, forced recruitment, and human trafficking.

H.R.2826, the “Refugee Program Integrity Restoration Act” would drastically reduce refugee admissions, place refugees under continual surveillance after they have arrived, and delay family reunification and integration by tripling the amount of time refugees have to wait until they receive green cards.

These types of discriminatory legislation do not match our values as Americans.

From Georgia there are two members of the House Judiciary Committee.

Rep. Doug Collins 202-225-9893 @RepDougCollins
Rep. Hank Johnson, Jr. 202-225-1605 @RepHankJohnson

Please take a moment before 10:00 a.m. tomorrow morning to call them both – EVEN IF YOU DO NOT LIVE IN THEIR DISTRICT – and state Please let the Congressman know I support refugee resettlement and believe in protecting unaccompanied children fleeing violence and persecution. I urge the Congressman to REJECT H.R.495, the “Protection of Children Act” and H.R.2826, the “Refugee Program Integrity Restoration Act,” which are being considered by the House Judiciary Committee. Thank you.
