Senator ? or Representative ?,
Please join the Coalition of Refugee Service Agencies (CRSA) for World Refugee Day 2017 as Georgia commemorates and honors the vast contributions that refugees make to Georgia communities.
Welcoming refugees not only vital as humanitarians but also makes good economic sense for Georgia. In 2016, over $2.2 million was spent on client rent, filling a total of 872 formerly vacant apartments. CRSA agencies also spent over $327,602 in utilities for clients, over $261,810 on MARTA cards for clients, and over $1 million in general client support – including groceries, furniture, and household goods. The majority of these items were purchased from locally owned or operated businesses.
That initial federal funding support is quickly recycled in Georgia and in 2016, more than 1,000 new Americans found employment, with an average wage of $9.63/ hour. Among clients of refugee resettlement agencies, 91% were fully self-sufficient within 180 days of arrival in the U.S. – among the highest percentages in the nation. This shows the initial federal investment in refugees quickly pays off at the local and state level in taxes and economic growth.
Please join the refugee community at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday June 17 in Clarkston to show your support.
