The Georgia House Higher Education Committee is scheduled to meet today at 3:00 p.m. to discuss  HB 37 a bill preventing private post-secondary institutions in this state from adopting sanctuary policies providing a refuge for immigrants. This bill would remove all federal pass thru and state funding, including students losing access to the Hope Scholarship and Tuition Equalization Grants, from private universities such as our partners Agnes Scott and Emory.

Please take a moment this morning to call Higher Education Committee Chairman Rick Jasperse about HB 37.

Please call Chairman Jasperse’s office at 404.656.7857 and state…..Please ask Chairman Jasperse to hold HB 37 without action and publicly take a stand in vocal opposition to all current and forthcoming anti-immigrant bills.

If you need more…..House Bill 37 is an unnecessary bill that restricts students access to a quality education and the principles of academic freedom in a community that affirms everyone’s rights to speak, learn, and grow.

After calling (or if you do not call still send the email anyway) send an email to the entire House Higher Education Committee with the following (or a personal version of it) and a subject line of “No on HB 37”. The following list can be cut and pasted directly into your email “to” box.

House Higher Education Committee,

Please hold HB 37 without action and publicly take a stand in vocal opposition to all current and forthcoming anti-immigration bills. HB 37 and bills like it are an anathema to Georgia’s founding and our longstanding reputation for hospitality. I welcome all newcomers, including refugees and immigrants, to Georgia and to my community and expect the state legislature to reflect those ideals.

Thank You,
